The Calendar Year 2019 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule dictated that referring providers must consult appropriate use criteria (AUC) prior to ordering advanced medical imaging for Medicare patients beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

Released November 1 by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the MPFS final rule further clarified the two-phase rollout of required clinical decision support (CDS) use previously mandated by the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA).

CMS also released the CY2019 Quality Payment Program Final Rule. In this rule, CMS describes changes to policies for implementation of the third year for the Merit-Based Incentives Payment System (MIPS) and for Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs) including expansion of the cost category to 15 percent, required use of the 2015 CERT and the implementation of facility-based measures.
